The Beads of Courage Zebra Bead
The Zebra is the official symbol of rare diseases in the United States. No two zebras have identical stripes which makes each one rare and unique. Preferring to be in groups, the zebra reminds us of the value of our community. We hope the Zebra Bead provides you with encouragement while facing the challenges of a rare disease and that you find love and support from your community.
The Zebra Bead was officially dedicated on February 28, 2021 on Rare Disease Day which is annually held on the last day of February and is the occasion to raise awareness for rare diseases. For more information on Rare Disease Day visit:

Beads of Courage is proud to partner with NORD in their efforts to raise awareness for rare diseases.
NORD(R), a 501(c)(3) organization, is a patient advocacy organization dedicated to individuals with rare diseases and the organizations that serve them. NORD, along with its more than 300 patient organization members, is committed to the identification, treatment, and cure of rare disorders through programs of education, advocacy, research, and patient services. NORD reminds us that “Alone we are rare. Together we are strong (R).”
