Intention:
MOTHER ELEPHANTS HAVE STRONG, loving bonds with their babies. This love continues as a mother elephant grieves. They have been known to show signs of mourning for years, even pausing in apparent quiet reflection when passing the area where they were last with the deceased. This grief is often shared with the herd, their tribe, as they gather together showing signs of comfort. They do not grieve alone.
“When a mother elephant loses her baby, the other elephants stand in a circle around her to allow her to grieve and mourn. They don’t hurry her along, or push her to abandon the body. They gently touch her with their trunks — a silent show of unwavering support.”
